Parent tips for child online safety
Discuss what your child sees online by age 8. Make it routine, not a one-time lecture.
Use Google Family Link / Apple Screen Time. Restrict app store purchases and adult content.
Make a written family plan: study, meals and bedtime are device-free.
Lock social-media to "friends only". Disable location sharing in photos and apps.
Banks, government and schools will never ask for OTP. Treat OTP like a house key.
Withdrawal, secrecy, fear of notifications - talk gently and report cyberbullying.
Identify 3 trusted adults your child can approach if they ever feel unsafe online.
Avoid banking and personal accounts on public Wi-Fi. Use mobile data instead.
Teach kids to pause 10 seconds before forwarding. WhatsApp forwards spread misinformation fast.
If something goes wrong online, respond with safety not punishment. Keep talking.
