  • - Keep devices out of bedrooms after 10 PM.
  • - Report online harm to a parent, teacher, or 1098 / 1930.

Parent tips for child online safety

01Have the talk early

Discuss what your child sees online by age 8. Make it routine, not a one-time lecture.

02Set up parental controls

Use Google Family Link / Apple Screen Time. Restrict app store purchases and adult content.

03Agree on screen-time limits

Make a written family plan: study, meals and bedtime are device-free.

04Privacy by default

Lock social-media to "friends only". Disable location sharing in photos and apps.

05Never share OTPs or passwords

Banks, government and schools will never ask for OTP. Treat OTP like a house key.

06Watch for warning signs

Withdrawal, secrecy, fear of notifications - talk gently and report cyberbullying.

07Trusted-adult network

Identify 3 trusted adults your child can approach if they ever feel unsafe online.

08Public Wi-Fi caution

Avoid banking and personal accounts on public Wi-Fi. Use mobile data instead.

09Verify before you share

Teach kids to pause 10 seconds before forwarding. WhatsApp forwards spread misinformation fast.

10Empathy first

If something goes wrong online, respond with safety not punishment. Keep talking.
